User Privacy

User privacy during online activities is important in MathLanders. Score and any other non-personal data is only sent to the MathLanders server upon user's request. Even then, since MathLanders is run on users' computers rather than on the server, personal data is stored locally on student's computer so no data other than the scores use is stored on the server, not even the messages exchanged between students, which are deleted from the server once they are read. Only the forum messages need to be stored online.

The MathLanders website will not display the online activities, so these activities are only shared between the MathLanders users inside the MathLanders program. This way, no breach of account information is possible. If a user chooses to share any personal information with his friends or other users, this information is only stored on his personal computer and only submitted for display, but not stored on MathLanders server or shared with any other party.

In addition, the students can anytime change the names that they appear with in the online activities, so they are not stuck with a name that they can be identified with, if they don't want to. The user online identification is based on an ID number only, so it doesn't need personal data such as user accounts or email addresses. Also, all the messages, forum posts or other communications in which a student participates are stored locally on student's computer, so the parents can view them at any time they wish, for a total online supervision. The students can also report abusive messages or other inappropriate online activities to MathLanders Moderators, and corrective actions can be taken against potential offenders.
